Day 2 and the Pantry Looks Empty

Thank goodness for the CSA share or there would be no food in this house! This is week 3 of the CSA and little by little, we are getting close to my favorite veggies of the season. Not sure if it is discernible, but in the bottom right hand corner, see that phallic looking object? Yup, it's a zoooooooook (aka a zuccini). To the zoooook's left are mini onions. To their left is the raddichio. I have not had raddichio before and can't wait to try it. Above the mini onion's green stalks is a pile of purple leaf kale. To the right of the kale, that bright bushy bunch, is cilantro. The cilantro is gracefully draped on a bag of red sails lettuce.

Here is today's menu:

Breakfast -

eggs + sausage + hash brown ($3.40)
iced coffee ($2.40)

Lunch -

Italian sub + sour cream and onion chips ($7.90)
water

Dinner -

salsa and chips
tacos
beer ($9)

Dessert -

cake
champagne (a person just got into med school, small celebratory dinner pahty)

No fruit today. We're out and the farmer's market is not until Thursday, so we may have to hang in until then.

Today's total = $22.70

just because it's a roundish and long piece of produce doesn't mean it has to be phallic. ok, yes it does :)

so do you only get your produce from the CSA? it just doesn't seem like that would cover you for a whole week...

well, it lasts usually until Monday-ish. with this new Zone way of eating though, we go through it in like 3 - 4 days. this is not a whole share either, this is half of a share. J and I are splitting it with two other people, to cut down on the cost. with the other half, we'd have TOO much and it might go bad. this is good - we supplement with stuff from the co-op and soon we'll have fresh greens and some herbs from my garden.

Erikka, can't find your email address but thank you for the seeds! I need to figure out when I can plant them.

Happy zooking. :)
